Music Ministry

Our church is blessed to have gifted singers and skillful instrumentalists, both professional and lay musicians, who participate in our ministry week after week. It is our goal to present music that glorifies, edifies, and ministers to the saints who worship with us.

"And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the Lord" (Psalm 40:3).

Children’s Choir Information 2022 - 2023

Rehearsals:  When – Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:30 pm (First one is September 7th)  Where – In the Church, unless otherwise informed

All Children’s Choir members are expected to keep this commitment.  In the event that a child cannot be on time for rehearsal or will not be able to attend rehearsal, please notify me ahead of time, as much as possible.

Participation at Mass/Performances:

The Children’s Choir will participate as a group, approximately once a month at 8:30 am or 11:00 am mass.  (dates TBA)  The Children will participate in our annual Christmas Concert in the Social Hall.  This year it is  on December 10, 2022 immediately following the 5:00 pm mass.

The Children will serve as cantors and be assigned solos according to skill and his/her readiness.  Conduct during rehearsals will also be used as criteria for choosing song leaders.  Training will be provided within the rehearsal time, for the most part.  If additional training is required, parents will be notified and we will mutually, work out a time for this.

Expectations: (Rehearsals, all masses and other events)

  • Children should use the bathroom and get water beforehand.
  • Gum chewing, food and drinks are not allowed. (Water allowed)
  • Running is not allowed in any space we occupy.
  • Talking is allowed only when permission is given to do so.
  • Hands must remain in his/her personal space.
  • Hands should only be raised when asked a question or in the event of an emergency.
  • Eyes must be on the Director for instruction.
  • All choir members are expected to participate fully and pay attention to the rehearsal, service, mass, or performance at hand.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in the child sitting out for a rehearsal, mass or other event.  Parents will be notified of any persistent issues.

We will need assistance from parents during the year anytime we are rehearsing or singing at an event.  I understand that many parents work away from home and cannot be here to help with escorting OLV students from the school to the church on rehearsal days or for daytime events.  If you are available for that duty, for assistance during rehearsal, or for supervising carpool at dismissal time, please contact me.  If several people volunteer, the load is lightened for all.

I look forward to a wonderful year of music ministry with your children!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or at the parish office: 991-5488 Ext. 4.

Valley Worship Youth Band Information

We have an exciting new group of singers and a band forming to for our Youth Group folks to enjoy during meetings and, but more importantly, to help us celebrate at Mass!

If you are interested in joining, please contact Ms. Theresa at [email protected] or Mr. Woodard at [email protected].

 Youth Ensemble Information

All students in the parish in Grades 8 through 12 are welcome and encouraged to join our Youth Ensemble. We are currently singing approximately once per month at either the 5:00 pm or 11:00 am Mass on the weekend. We schedule rehearsals as needed to prepare for upcoming liturgies. Please check the parish bulletin and the choir website for the schedule. The Youth Ensemble is encouraged to sing with the Adult Choir at weekend Masses when they are not scheduled to sing at Mass as a Youth Ensemble. We believe in the active participation of young people in parish ministry and welcome the young people to join in singing as much as possible. Youth Ensemble members are also encouraged to attend Wednesday rehearsals with the Adult choir members as much as possible. Adult Choir Rehearsals on Wednesday evenings is from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the Church.  Although attendance at Adult Choir Rehearsal is helpful, it is not a requirement for Youth Ensemble members, as many of them have CYO on Wednesday evenings and many demands on their time with their school activities. For more information or questions, please contact Theresa Thienpont at the parish office: 991-5488 Ext. 4, or at [email protected]. Click here for the Youth Ensemble Memo
