Music Ministry

Our church is blessed to have gifted singers and skillful instrumentalists, both professional and lay musicians, who participate in our ministry week after week. It is our goal to present music that glorifies, edifies, and ministers to the saints who worship with us.

"And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the Lord" (Psalm 40:3).

NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME!

Have you ever considered joining your church choir? The OLV Adult Choir is not just about singing or playing an instrument but also a way to grow in your faith, create lasting friendships, and uplift your fellow parishoners through music! Whether you are a seasoned musician or you just like singing in the shower, the OLV Adult Choir is the ministry for you. This includes not only singers of any voice type, but instrumentalists too. If you have experience playing the piano, organ, strings, brass, woodwinds or other instruments, you are welcome here! Anyone high school and older are invited to join this group- where creativity and faith become one. No audition necessary.

If you've been on the fence, now is the time to answer the Holy Spirit's call- we are about to start back our weekly rehearsals after a restful Summer hiatus. We rehearse most Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30 in the Church or Social Hall (see schedule above or click here). In the coming months, we will be preparing music for Sunday Masses, Holy Days, Advent, and Christmas. In addition to participating at either 8:30 or 11:00 Mass every Sunday, the OLV Adult Choir will also be performing a Christmas Recital on Saturday, December 13 following 5:00 Mass. There is so much to look forward to!

Our lives often pull us in so many directions, demanding our time and efforts, and making a committment to a ministry can be a challenge. While participation in weekly rehearsals and some outside practice is strongly encouraged, please do not let your busy schedule deter you from joining us! If you have any questions about the music ministry at OLV, please contact Lauren in the Parish Office at 205-991-5488 Ext. 4 or lculotta@olvsch.com. Join us for a Wednesday evening rehearsal to see what a blessing the gift of music can be not only for yourself, but for your Parish!

Saint Cecilia Prayer

O glorious saint, who chose to die
Instead of denying your King,
We pray you please to help us
As His fair praise we sing!
We lift our hearts in joyous song
To honor Him this way,
And while we sing, remembering,
To sing is to doubly pray.
At once in our hearts and in our tongues
We offer double prayer
Sent heavenward on winged notes
To praise God dwelling there.
While in our hearts and tongues we try
With song to praise God twice,
We ask dear saint, to help us be
United close to Christ!
